SOS Conferences:
For several years, SOS and the Philadelphia Chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), have co-sponsored an annual Fall conference for suicide grievers and others concerned with with suicide and suicide loss. The session is scheduled for National Suicide Survivors Day, which falls on a Saturday in November. In May 2002, we added a Spring conference, exclusively focused on suicide loss issues. This session takes place on a Saturday during Suicide Awareness Week in May (which is Mental Health Month). Both get-togethers are similar in format and strong on support and information-sharing. Presentations by guest speakers (e.g., Iris Bolton spoke in May 2002) and workshops and panels led by suicide survivors are offered, and a memorial service is part of the agenda.

Recent Events
SOS, Inc. was well-represented in the “Out Of The Darkness” Overnight Walk on
June 9 & 10, 2007 in New York City. Members of the Phillysos Team walked 20 miles through the night to bring suicide awareness and prevention out of the darkness and to support the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Good job! (Look forward to an OTD Walk in the Philadelphua area soon!)

Small turnout but lots of support. The SOS folks from the Wilmington, DE, joined us and brought their beautiful memory quilt along. All the faciltators and SOS volunteers shared their loss and coping experiences.

Annual Suicide Prevention Awareness Fun Run & Walk, Sunday May 6, 2007
175 people came out to walk and support suicide prevention awareness at Ridley Creek State Park in Delaware County. It was a great day weather-wise and the second Delco Walk was a great success.
